US Democratic Congressman Eugene Vindman is confident that support for Ukraine will continue among both Democrats and Republicans after the midterm elections.

Details: Asked whether bipartisan support for Ukraine would continue after the midterm elections, Vindman replied: "100%. Yeah."

He said his certainty is based on the fact that there have been numerous votes in both chambers of Congress on bills that supported Ukraine where the majority has voted in favour.

Vindman noted that there has been one instance concerning a Ukraine-related matter where the outcome was slightly different for procedural reasons. "But I think there's overwhelming support from Democrats and Republicans, and I hear that in conversations I have regularly," the congressman said.

He also said he is certain because "Ukraine is on the right side of history".

"The American people – even though we have our challenges in Congress right now on the political side – recognise that Ukraine is fighting for freedom. For the same values that our country was formed for. And that is why I am certain that bipartisan support will continue, despite a sense of fatigue," Vindman stressed.

However, he added that there would not be an absolute return to the previous status quo after the elections.

Quote: "And frankly, I think that even under the previous administration, which was Democratic, the support was not robust enough. I would have been much more assertive in support for Ukraine and for our European allies… I think it will not necessarily return to the status quo before this administration, but sort of a re-dedication to our basic principles and support."

Background: In the same interview, Vindman said he is confident that the House of Representatives will pass the Russia sanctions bill championed by the late Senator Lindsey Graham.
