Drones attack two chemical plants in Russia's Perm Krai – videos, photos

On the morning of 11 September, drones attacked two chemical plants in Russia's Perm Krai whose products are used by Russia's defence industry – Metafrax Chemicals and the Azot branch of the Uralchem chemical company, Russia's largest producer of nitrogen fertilisers.

Quote from Exilenova+: "On the morning of 11 September, Ukrainian drones attacked the Azot branch of Uralchem JSC in the city of Berezniki in Perm Krai… The attack was carried out on one of Russia's major chemical industry plants, whose products form part of important production chains linked to the supply of the military-industrial complex."
Details: The targeted complex, which comprises around 90 production facilities, is Russia's largest producer of nitrogen fertilisers and the country's sole supplier of several chemical products, including higher aliphatic amines, sodium nitrate and crystalline sodium nitrite. The plant produces ammonia, urea and ammonium nitrate, which are used, among other things, in the production of explosives.

"According to triangulation data, the strike likely hit the chemical water treatment unit, which supplies demineralised water to the steam reformers and boiler equipment of the ammonia synthesis units... Damage to the chemical water treatment unit is critical to the production cycle: without treated water, the ammonia synthesis units cannot operate, resulting in a cascading shutdown of the entire plant," CyberBoroshno said.

According to Astra, plant workers reported explosions and a shutdown of the production process. Russia's Ministry of Defence also claimed that drones had been downed over the region, and restrictions were introduced at Perm airport. However, local authorities have so far made no comment on the attack on the chemical plant.
Mahonin later confirmed a mass drone attack on the region, including on two industrial facilities.
According to monitoring Telegram channels, one of these is Metafrax Chemicals, which drones attacked on the morning of 11 September. The facility is also located in Perm Krai. The plant, located in the city of Gubakha in Perm Krai, is an important part of Russia's chemical industry. In particular, its products supply dozens of other Russian military production facilities.

Berezniki is located approximately 1,500 km from the border with Ukraine. The distance from the Ukrainian border to Metafrax Chemicals is 1,700 km.

Background: This is not the first time drones have attacked the chemical plant in Berezniki. The Azot facility previously sustained drone strikes in autumn 2025.
