Ukraine has creative ideas for reinvigorating peace process, foreign minister says

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has said the Ukrainian side has some creative ideas regarding the peace process in the context of Russia's war of aggression.
Source: Ukrainian news agency Interfax-Ukraine, citing Sybiha at a joint press conference with his German counterpart Johann Wadephul in Kyiv, as reported by European Pravda
Details: Sybiha called for a fresh push on peace efforts, with the US playing an active part.
Quote: "Regarding peace efforts, we need maximum reinvigoration – unfortunately, we're currently in a pause. We need more active involvement from the American side. We welcome that involvement, we welcome American leadership, because without the Americans, without the US, achieving progress and a just peace in this situation is not realistic."
More details: Sybiha noted that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed this with US President Donald Trump during their recent meeting in Washington.
Sybiha also said the Ukrainian side is looking forward to the American negotiating team arriving in Ukraine.
Quote: "Ukraine has some ideas, including creative ideas, to reinvigorate this process as much as possible. We are looking forward to the arrival of the US negotiating team."
More details: Sybiha added that he and Wadephul also discussed Europe's role in peace efforts today.
Quote: "In a word, there should be no pauses, and the new active political and diplomatic season must focus above all on how we end this war. And there is one – essentially only one – obstacle to that: Putin."
Background:
- Earlier, Zelenskyy said greater US involvement in the peace plan is needed, given that Russia is unwilling to end the war.
- On 1 August, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that diplomatic efforts will be made in the coming weeks to determine whether the peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia can be restarted.
- According to media reports, Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are likely to visit Kyiv during Ukraine's Independence Day celebrations.
