Russia attacks Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia with Zircon missiles, ballistic missiles and jet-powered Shaheds

Russian forces attacked Ukraine with anti-ship and ballistic missiles as well as 120 drones of various types on the night of 10-11 August. Ukrainian air defences have destroyed or jammed 98 UAVs.

Details: Russia attacked Zaporizhzhia and Kyiv with Zircon anti-ship missiles and Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles launched from Russia's Kursk, Rostov, Voronezh and Oryol oblasts.

The Russians also used 120 Shahed (some jet-powered) and Gerbera attack drones as well as Parodiya decoy UAVs.

The drones were launched from the Russian cities of Kursk, Millerovo, Oryol and Primorsko-Akhtarsk as well as from the temporarily occupied cities of Donetsk and Hvardiiske in Crimea.

Kyiv Oblast and Zaporizhzhia were the main targets of the Russian attack.

Aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare assets, unmanned systems units and mobile fire groups from Ukraine's defence forces have been involved in repelling the attack.

Quote: "As of 09:00, [Ukrainian] air defence forces had destroyed or jammed 98 Shahed, Gerbera and other types of drones in the country's north, south and east.

Hits by aerial assets have been recorded at 21 locations and the fall of downed aerial assets (debris) at five locations."

Details: The Air Force stressed that as of 09:00 the attack was still ongoing, with several Russian drones remaining in Ukrainian airspace.

Background: Russian forces launched a ballistic missile attack on Kyiv on the night of 10-11 August. One person was injured in the attack, while a strike was recorded on the grounds of a children's hospital in the Shevchenkivskyi district.
