Zelenskyy: Intelligence indicates Russians are preparing new massive attack

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on 5 July that Ukrainian intelligence services have information indicating that the Russians are preparing to launch another massive attack on Ukraine.

Quote: "Intelligence once again indicates that the Russians are preparing a new massive strike. This is in Putin's spirit: right after America's Independence Day and before the NATO Summit in Ankara. Russia wants to bring more evil and kill people. Please stay safe and heed any air raid alerts."

Details: Separately, Zelenskyy urged Ukraine's international partners not to delay in providing air defence missiles: "Any delay with missiles for our air defence – missiles for Patriots – costs lives and encourages Russia to continue fighting."

He stated that the world has enough air defence capabilities in terms of both quantity and quality: "What is needed are your decisions to ensure real protection of lives in Ukraine. Above all, these are, of course, decisions by the United States, decisions by the strong countries in Europe and around the world."

Zelenskyy called for active decision-making, adding that "missiles for Patriots are not needed in warehouses right now, but in Patriot units in Ukraine".

Background:

• Oleh Hryhorov, Head of Sumy Oblast Military Administration, said he had information indicating that Russian forces are planning to strike petrol station sites in Sumy Oblast and several other oblasts in the near future. He urged residents not to stay near filling stations unless absolutely necessary.
• Thirty-one people were killed and 102 injured in the Russian attack on Kyiv on 2 July.
• Russia launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine using attack drones as well as air-, land- and sea-launched missiles of various types on the night of 1-2 July. Ukraine's air defences downed 524 out of the 570 aerial assets launched, although hits by 25 ballistic missiles and 12 attack drones have been reported.
