Zelenskyy confirms additional meeting with US after US-Russia talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that the Ukrainian delegation will have another round of talks with the US delegation after US representatives led a full day of negotiations with the Russian side in Riyadh on Monday 24 March.

Details: Zelenskyy said that he had recently talked to Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umierov, who is currently in Saudi Arabia for meetings with US representatives.   

Zelenskyy stated that after the discussion on Sunday, the US and Ukrainian delegations will hold an additional round of talks. 

"Yesterday, there was a meeting with the US team. Today, US representatives spoke with the war team – that is, with representatives of Russia. After that, another meeting took place between the Ukrainian and American teams. I'm expecting a new report," Zelenskyy said. 

He added that Ukraine needs movement "towards real peace – towards guaranteed security".

"Russia is the only party dragging this war out, mocking both our people and the global community. To push Russia toward peace, we need strong moves and strong actions," Zelenskyy emphasised. 

Background: 

• The US and Russian delegations held talks all day on 24 March in Saudi Arabia. The Kremlin said that the main topic of discussion was the issue of renewing the Black Sea Grain Initiative, from which the Russians withdrew in 2023.
• Media outlets reported that the US and Ukrainian delegations will hold another round of talks after the US and Russia complete their meeting in Saudi Arabia on Monday 24 March.
