Zelenskyy awaits Vance in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reaffirmed his invitation for US Vice President JD Vance to visit Ukraine.

Details: During one of their recent phone conversations, Zelenskyy urged Vance to reconsider his decision not to visit Ukraine during the war.

"We’re still waiting for you," Zelenskyy said with a smile. Vance reportedly did not respond to the invitation.

Background:

• During a spat at the White House on 28 February, Zelenskyy called on Vance to visit Ukraine to witness the situation firsthand. In response, Vance claimed that he "watched stories" and is therefore aware of developments in Ukraine.
• Vance also stated that he refuses to visit Ukraine because he believes the Ukrainian government organises "propaganda tours".
• Vance’s cousin, Nate, spent three years in Ukraine, serving in the defence forces. He has referred to both his brother and US President Donald Trump as "useful idiots" of Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.
• In response to his cousin’s criticism, Vance said he does not want to argue with him publicly.
