The talks, as noted, will take place next week and will last for three days.

The UK prime minister's official spokesperson stated that this week's meeting "had further reinforced to him the importance of ensuring the coalition had the necessary plans in place for any eventuality".

Starmer also shared details about new working groups for planning a "peacekeeping mission" in Ukraine, covering land, sea and air, as well as regeneration and reconstruction matters.

The UK, along with France, is leading the efforts of 30 countries to plan the deployment of a contingent to monitor a potential ceasefire in Ukraine.

Background:

  • Starmer stressed the need to guarantee any potential agreement to end the war in Ukraine, as without this, Russia would violate it.
  • Meanwhile, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin has no power to veto the potential deployment of foreign troops in Ukraine.
