Quote: "That is the plan on the table, let's get on with it, what are we waiting for? What we certainly can't do is give Putin a veto over the security architecture that will govern that peace."
More details: Putin has rejected the possibility of NATO or other Western troops being stationed in Ukraine as part of any peace agreement.
Background:
- Previously, French President Emmanuel Macron also stated that Russia would have no say in the deployment of foreign forces.
- Reports indicate that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer outlined plans for a Western peacekeeping force in Ukraine at the coalition of the willing meeting on 15 March, with a proposed deployment of over 10,000 troops.
- At the same time, Starmer noted that any post-ceasefire plans for Ukraine will require coordination with the United States.
