Losses caused by Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant disaster reach US$14 billion

The value of the losses caused as a result of the Russians blowing up the dam at the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) has reached about US$14 billion.

Source: Svitlana Hrynchuk, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, in an interview with the Rada TV channel, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine 

Quote from Hrynchuk: "If we’re talking about material losses, almost US$14 billion in losses has accrued due to the destruction of the Kakhovka dam and the loss of these water resources."

Details: Hrynchuk noted that the volume of water resources lost is equivalent to half the reserves of some African countries. This was also a significant amount for Ukraine, and the issue of water supply in the impacted areas remains extremely critical.

Background: Preliminary estimates showed that the Kakhovka HPP disaster caused damage to the environment worth UAH 78 billion (approx. US$1.94 billion).
