Details: Krasnoselsky wrote that "there are no hopeless situations" and called on residents of the region who cannot solve the problem with heating to contact the hotline.

"Now we remember with gratitude those who built houses with stove heating. Many houses, especially in rural areas, still have stoves, but they have been ‘unpacked’ and turned on. Fortunately, our region is rich in wood, and there are still reserves. Solid fuel sales centres have been opened in every district. At the request of citizens who cannot afford firewood due to their circumstances, it is provided free of charge," Krasnoselsky said.

Background:

  • Since 1 January, the breakaway region has stopped receiving Russian gas, which has left tens of thousands of household consumers without gas and brought local industry to a standstill.
  • The Transnistrian authorities urged residents to solve the problem with electric heaters, as electricity is still an available resource – the regional power plant continues to operate on fuel oil and coal reserves.
  • According to forecasts, they should last until the end of winter, but with a sharp spike in electricity consumption to compensate for the lack of gas and the onset of cold weather, they could be depleted much faster.
  • On 3 January, rolling power outages were introduced in Transnistria because the power grid could not withstand the new load.
