Search and rescue workers reported on the evening of 3 January that they completed the removal of the rubble of a residential building in Kyiv's Pecherskyi district, which resulted from the Russian attack on 1 January.

Details: The Russian attack killed two people and injured four others in the Pecherskyi district. Rescue workers rescued four people.

Quote: "For three days, rescue workers, utility services and volunteers worked at the scene of the strike.

They removed and dismantled five concrete monolithic slabs and removed more than 850 tonnes of construction waste.

A total of 382 rescue workers and 117 pieces of equipment were involved in the operation."

Previously: Pavlo Petrov, spokesperson for the State Emergency Service in Kyiv, said on 2 January that search and rescue operations in a residential building in Kyiv's Pecherskyi district, which was damaged by the fall of Russian drone debris on 1 January, had been completed and emergency restoration work was underway.

Background:

  • On the morning of 1 January, debris from the Russian drone fell on the residential building in Kyiv's Pecherskyi district, partially destroying the top two floors and starting a fire. Rescue workers found the body of a woman under the rubble, and seven other people were injured.
  • Later, it became known that Ihor Zyma and Olesia Sokur, a husband and wife who were both scientists, were killed in the Russian drone attack on the city of Kyiv on the morning of 1 January.
  • President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that "even on New Year's Eve, Russia was focused solely on inflicting pain on Ukraine".
