The CNN report also claims that, over the last six months, the bodies of at least five American volunteers could not be retrieved from the battlefield. Two of them were eventually repatriated from Russian-occupied territories to Ukrainian-controlled land after prolonged negotiations.

Lauren Guillome, an American living in Kyiv and working with the non-profit RT Weatherman Foundation, which helps foreign families locate missing loved ones, told CNN that she is currently handling cases involving 88 deceased or missing foreign nationals of 18 nationalities, half of whom are Americans.

Guillome noted that the true number of deceased American volunteers in Ukraine remains unclear.

Background: Filip Antosiak, a 19-year-old Polish volunteer who left his studies in the UK to join a Ukrainian drone strike unit, was recently killed in action near the city of Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast.
