Details: Yaroslav sang in the Lviv National Men's Choral Chapel Dudaryk before joining the armed forces. However, in 2021, just before the full-scale invasion, he decided to enlist for military service.
Yaroslav served in the 101st Brigade for the Protection of the General Staff and later became a reconnaissance soldier.
In autumn 2024, his brigade was engaged in fierce battles for the city of Toretsk in Donetsk Oblast, where Yaroslav sustained severe injuries.
Quote from Yaroslav: "We immediately understood it would be intense because a Russian drone spotted us as we were moving to our position. And that's how it turned out. A shell hit the garage where we were staying almost immediately. Both of my legs were injured."
Details: Initially, he was treated by medics at the nearest stabilisation point, then in the cities of Dnipro and Cherkasy. Despite their efforts, one leg had to be amputated.
Yaroslav is now undergoing rehabilitation and preparing for prosthetics.
Quote from Andrii Novosad, Yaroslav’s physical therapist: "His left remaining limb was severely damaged by shrapnel and was in a cast for a long time. When Yaroslav first came to us, he couldn't stand on his leg at all. After two weeks of therapy, he started walking with the help of a trapeze.
We are now working on restoring the mobility of his foot and strengthening his muscles. This is essential for him to progress to crutches and, ultimately, to the next stage – prosthetics."
More details: Yaroslav is determined to master walking with a prosthetic well enough to return to service and fight on the battlefield to avenge his losses.
"War is not a choice. War is a duty for every conscious Ukrainian," says the soldier.
