Quote: "To clean up, absorbent booms have been allocated from Mykolaiv's material stocks and installed in the contaminated areas by specialists from the State Emergency Service. Specialists have been pumping out the oil for several days. So far, 25 tonnes have been removed. The work is ongoing."
Details: Sienkevych said the environmental impact is minimal, as the oil is of organic origin.
Background: This is not the first time that vegetable oil storage tanks in Mykolaiv have been damaged by Russian drones. In October 2022, Russian forces targeted storage facilities belonging to a leading sunflower oil exporter, causing rivers of oil to flow down several streets in the city.
