Urban fighting underway in Novovasylivka, south of Pokrovsk – DeepState

Fierce fighting continues in the village of Novovasylivka, located south of Pokrovsk in Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast. Russian forces are carrying out assault operations with superior forces.

Details: According to DeepState, Russian forces undertook intensive assault operations in Novovasylivka from the east and the south on 30–31 December 2024 and 1 January 2025. The attacks are carried out mainly by infantry forces, sometimes with the support of armoured vehicles and light artillery tanks.

Quote: "The situation is such that there are enemy forces in every corner of the village, but this is the same for Ukraine’s defence forces. If there are our forces in one house, the next one over might have enemy forces in it. The tactical situation is chaotic, but unfortunately the enemy’s superiority in manpower can turn out to be a decisive factor."

Background:

• On 27 December, analysts from the DeepState project reported that the Russians were amassing forces in Novoolenivka, Donetsk Oblast, and were preparing to attack Novoielyzavetivka.
• On the night of 1–2 January, DeepState reported that Russian forces had advanced near Vovkove, Neskuchne, Novoyelyzavetivka, Solone, Vozdvyzhenka, and Kurakhove and its southern outskirts.
