Ukraine has secured a separate format for the repatriation of seriously ill and seriously injured Ukrainian prisoners of war, both military and civilian, from Russia.

Source: Andrii Yusov, spokesperson for Ukraine's Defence Intelligence, during the national joint 24/7 newscast; video by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War and the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU)

Quote from Yusov: "A repatriation has just taken place – the reciprocal return of the seriously ill and seriously injured. This is a landmark event. Ukraine has established a separate format for bringing back seriously ill and seriously injured Ukrainian defenders and civilians. We worked on this for a long time, and while there is still more work to be done, there is hope that progress in this area will be faster and more successful."

Details: Yusov noted that among the prisoners who have returned are people with amputations, sight loss, gangrene and cancer. Ukrainian doctors and psychologists will need to devote significant efforts to their recovery.

Background: Ukraine recently secured the release of 24 soldiers who defended the Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk fronts and the city of Mariupol, including the Azovstal steelworks. One civilian, who was captured in Kyiv Oblast and unlawfully detained by Russian forces, has also been freed.
