In response, the Pentagon nominee said the matter is a political decision at the level of the US president-elect, who "has made it very clear that he would like to see an end to this conflict".

Quote: "We know who the aggressor is. We know who the good guy is. We’d like to see it [the resolution – ed.] as advantageous for the Ukrainians as possible. But that war needs to come to an end."

More details: The nomination of Hegseth, a veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and Fox News host, has been overshadowed by scandals including alleged abuse of alcohol and harassment.

Despite the controversies, Trump has reaffirmed his support for Hegseth.
