The German Defence Minister criticised the fact that "there are people in Germany who still do not want to accept this".

Therefore, he welcomed NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte's plan to further strengthen the Alliance's presence in the Baltic Sea region.

Quote from Boris Pistorius: "This is a clear signal: we will not tolerate sabotage and destruction in the North Atlantic Alliance and will take joint and decisive action against it."

Background: The Estlink 2 high-voltage power lines were mechanically damaged on the afternoon of 25 December. The primary explanation is that it was damaged by the anchor of the Eagle S tanker, which is thought to be part of Russia's shadow fleet. It will take about six months to repair the power line.

Other incidents involving cables were also reported.
