Ihor Zyma and Olesia Sokur, a husband and wife who were both scientists, were killed in a Russian drone attack on the city of Kyiv on the morning of 1 January.

The couple had dedicated nearly their entire lives to science, having worked for many years at the Institute of Biology and Medicine at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv."

Details: The website of the Institute of Biology and Medicine at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv states that Dr Ihor Zyma was a Senior Researcher and Associate Professor in Biology. He taught courses in Physiology and Anatomy of Humans and Animals, Anatomy and Physiology of the Central Nervous System, Physiology of the Nervous System and Higher Nervous Activity, Neurophysiology, Physiology of Neural Networks, and Evolution of Behaviour and Anthropogenesis.

Background: On the morning of 1 January, debris from a Russian drone struck a residential building in Kyiv's Pecherskyi district, partially destroying the top two floors and causing a fire. Two people were killed in the attack.
