Ukraine to receive €7 million to renovate Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant
The countries contributing to the International Cooperation Account for Chornobyl have announced the allocation of about €7 million to develop the Chornobyl exclusion zone.

"Canada has announced its plans to transfer €5 million from the fund recently closed in Russia. The European Commission is adding €1.7 million to the €5 million that was previously provided. Belgium's contribution will also be added," Svitlana Hrynchuk said at a meeting of the Assembly of Depositors of the account organised by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
The Ukrainian minister reports that the depositors' funds will be used to restore the equipment of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant that was destroyed and damaged during the Russian occupation.
The Minister assured that work on restoring the Chornobyl zone will continue. On 5 June, the law of Ukraine on the ratification of the Framework Agreement between Ukraine and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on the operation of the International Cooperation Account for Chornobyl came into force.
Background: The State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management has used up 75% of the funds for the maintenance of the Chornobyl zone – UAH 2.11 billion (approx. US$50.72 million) out of the UAH 2.81 (approx. US$67.57 million) billion included in the budget.
