Details: Trump said he had spoken to Zelenskyy about how to end the war and that he was ready to negotiate.
"He wants to make peace. That's new," Donald Trump said.
"He wants to have a ceasefire. He wants to make peace. We didn’t talk about the details. He thinks it’s time, and Putin should think its time because he’s lost — when you lose 700,000 people, it’s time. It’s not going to end until there’s a peace," the US president-elect said.
Trump added that he was "formulating a concept of how to end this ridiculous war".
He also voiced similar theses in a post on his Truth Social social media platform, where he said that "Ukraine and Zelenskyy" want an agreement to end the fighting.
Background:
- After speaking with Trump and Macron, Zelenskyy said he insisted on "effective guarantees" of peace.
- In his first interview after the election, Trump did not rule out the possibility of cutting aid to Ukraine.
