Ukrainian President's Crimea representative who previously refused to join Parliament explains her change of heart
Tamila Tasheva, the President's Permanent Representative in Crimea, has decided to join the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament) as a member of the Holos (Voice) party, saying there is no division between the government and the opposition now – "there should be a single team".

Quote from Tasheva: "Soon I will start working in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. I know that many of you, my colleagues and friends, have been wondering whether I would move to the parliament. I’m not going to lie, it wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s been made.
I believe there shouldn’t be such divisions as government and opposition now. There should be a single team working for the benefit of our country and for victory. So my transition to the Parliament won’t change my attitude towards the President. I will always consider myself a part of his team and will be grateful for the years we worked together and the fact that we have been able to do a lot for Crimea thanks to his position.
A lot of work lies ahead with my future colleagues from the Holos party (future for me, because I have not yet officially become an MP)."
Details: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree on 4 December removing Tasheva as the President's Permanent Representative in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
Tasheva had previously said she would not sit in the Verkhovna Rada because she was needed more as permanent representative in Crimea. She referred to herself as a member of the president's political team.
At the same time, the Central Election Commission recognised the president's permanent representative in Crimea as an elected member of the Ukrainian parliament from the Holos party.
Background:
- Tasheva obtained a seat in the Verkhovna Rada following the death of an MP from her party, Oleh Makarov, as she is the next candidate on the Holos party’s electoral list.
- The Holos faction in the parliament consists of 19 MPs.
