Ukraine's Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko has expressed doubts about Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico's threats to halt electricity supplies to Kyiv over Ukraine's stance on the transit of Russian gas.

Details: Halushchenko believes Slovakia will not stop exporting electricity to Ukraine, as such a move would be "absolutely contrary" to EU regulations. He stated that cutting electricity sales to Ukraine would only deal Slovakia a greater financial blow.

Quote: "We are talking not about some grant of electricity or supply for free — we are talking about the electricity which we pay for."

Halushchenko added that Slovakia's losses would amount to "hundreds of millions of dollars" annually.

The minister also noted that Ukraine could replace the lost electricity through imports from Romania and Poland.
