Ukraine's Defence Intelligence reports historic strike: naval drone destroys Russian Mi-8 helicopter in Crimea – video
Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) has announced that its military have destroyed an aerial target using a Magura V5 maritime drone for the first time in the world.

Details: It is reported that on 31 December, soldiers from DIU’s special unit Group 13, for the first time in history, hit an air target using a Magura V5 naval strike drone equipped with missile weapons.
The intelligence service reported that a Russian Mi-8 helicopter had been destroyed by R-73 SeeDragon missiles during a battle in the Black Sea near Cape Tarkhankut in temporarily occupied Crimea.
Another similar Russian helicopter was hit and managed to reach its home airfield.
Updated: A radio interception from a Mi-8 helicopter, which managed to return to base despite being hit, has been made public as well.

Background:
- On the evening of 30 December and on the night of 30-31 December, explosions rang out in Sevastopol in temporarily occupied Crimea, and the Russians claimed an attack by UAVs and uncrewed surface vessels.
- In May 2024, it was reported that an Ukrainian Magura V5 uncrewed surface vessel was equipped with R-73 air-to-air missiles.
