Russians attack Sumy Oblast, destroying infrastructure facilities and damaging 12 high-rise buildings
Russian troops launched a missile attack on the infrastructure of the Shostka hromada in Sumy Oblast on 31 December, destroying infrastructure facilities and damaging residential buildings, educational institutions and social facilities. [A hromada is an administrative unit designating a city, town or village and its adjacent territory – ed.]

Details: Mykola Noha, Head of the Shostka hromada, said that the Russian strikes had caused destruction.
Quote from Hoha: "Some infrastructure facilities have been destroyed. Twelve multi-storey residential buildings, two educational institutions, and other social facilities were damaged... Emergency rescue units are responding. Damage and losses are being assessed."
Details: At around 09:00, Sumy Oblast Military Administration reported that Russians continued to hit infrastructure in the Shostka hromada with missiles and called on residents to take shelter.
Background:
- The Russians launched attack drones towards Ukraine on the evening of 30 December.
- Ukraine’s Air Force said that there was a threat of a Russian ballistic missile strike on Kyiv and several other parts of Ukraine from the northeast on the night of 30-31 December. Air defence was responding in Kyiv.
- On the morning of 31 December, the Russians once again launched missiles on Ukraine. Explosions were heard in the city of Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast at around 08:00. Authorities reported that air defence systems were responding.
