Combat situation on the Vremivka front is challenging, but it is currently premature to talk about a potential encirclement of Ukrainian troops, Defence Forces of Ukraine's South have stated.

Source: Ukrinform, citing Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for Defence Forces of Ukraine's South

Quote: "Over the past several days, the enemy has carried out over 40 assault operations daily on the Vremivka front: 47 yesterday and 44 today. They are attempting to bypass [Velyka - ed.] Novosilka from the eastern flank and even from the north.

However, the Defence Forces of the South are aware of these plans, actively defending and implementing stabilisation measures. Therefore, it is too early to talk about any potential encirclement at this stage."

Details: Voloshyn added that the Russians are suffering significant losses, with around 200 soldiers being killed and dozens of vehicles being destroyed daily by Ukraine’s Defence Forces.

Voloshyn reported that 8 tanks and up to 15 armoured vehicles were destroyed yesterday, while 4 tanks and up to 5 armoured fighting vehicles were wrecked today.

Ukraine's defenders are crushing Russian soldiers attempting to breach Ukrainian lines and, when possible, actively engage in combat to regain their positions.

Background:

  • Analysts from the DeepState project reported that the Russians continue to cut through the Vremivka ledge on Donetsk front, which poses a threat of encircling Ukrainian forces in the area of Velyka Novosilka, Donetsk Oblast.
  • DeepState also reported that the Russians had occupied the village of Hannivka in Donetsk Oblast.
  • UK Defence Intelligence believes that Velyka Novosilka has become vulnerable to Russian attacks following the loss of Vuhledar, located 30 kilometres to the east, in early October 2024.
