Details: The president emphasised that Ukraine has to join the European Union, which means that next year, everything must be done to expedite the negotiation process and establish connections with EU partners.
Quote: "This is why Poland's presidency in the EU, and Denmark's in the second half of the year, must become historic for Ukraine."
Details: Zelenskyy said that Ukraine's voice must be "strong, clear, and persuasive" at all levels in the EU–from the highest institutions to civil society leaders.
On 1 January, Poland will assume the presidency of the EU Council, followed by Denmark on 1 July, 2025.
Background:
- On 17 December, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine aims to open at least two clusters in the EU accession negotiations in 2025, with the maximum goal being all clusters.
- The president noted that this requires the active work of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament) "without pre-election talk".
- Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European Integration, said that Ukraine, along with Poland and Denmark, had drawn up a plan to open negotiations on accession.
