Germany states it will not send soldiers to Ukraine before end of war
German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has said that he can imagine German soldiers in Ukraine, but only if there is a ceasefire.

Quote: "I want to make one thing clear: until the war is over, there will be no German soldiers on Ukrainian soil. This question will arise when there is a ceasefire or peace and when it is clear what that will look like."
Details: Pistorius then said that it depends on whether there will be a demarcation line, a buffer zone or a peacekeeping zone where the armed forces will ensure peace, as it entails different scenarios for such a peacekeeping mission. "As you can see, there is still too much to say here," he added.
Ultimately, the decision will still be made by the German parliament, as Pistorius stressed.
"But one thing is clear: Germany, as the largest NATO country in Europe and the largest economy in Europe, cannot stand by and remain uninvolved," he said.
Background:
- When asked about the participation of Western soldiers in a possible peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz recently stated that it was always necessary to act in the right order. Ukraine must first define its goals for a non-dictated peace.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged that the idea of deploying a peacekeeping mission to Ukraine as a deterrent against another Russian attack had been discussed at meetings in Brussels and said he was already "seeing positive things" from some leaders.
- In an address to EU leaders, Zelenskyy expressed support for French President Emmanuel Macron's idea and called on other partners to join in
