Missile wreckage falls in Kyiv, fires raging, one person killed, ten injured – photos, video

Wreckage from a Russian missile has fallen in three districts in Kyiv: fires are raging, one person has been killed and ten others injured, five cars are on fire and a heating pipeline has been damaged.

Quote from Klitschko: "An enemy attack has resulted in the fall of wreckage in the Holosiivskyi, Solomianskyi, Shevchenkivskyi and Dniprovskyi districts. Fires have broken out on building rooftops and cars. A heating pipeline in Holosiivskyi district has also been damaged."

Details: Popko said one person was reported to have been killed in the Holosiivskyi district. This information was later confirmed by the State Emergency Service. 

"One person was found dead and one person was injured," emergency services workers reported.

The National Police said the man who was killed was on the street at the time of the attack.

Later, Klitschko said that the number of injured as a result of the Russian strike had increased to nine.

"Nine people were injured as a result of the enemy attack on the capital. Four of them have been hospitalised. The body of one deceased person has also been found," the mayor wrote.

Kyiv City Military Administration reported that as of 10:21, 10 people had been injured in Kyiv, six of whom had been hospitalised.

Klitschko said that emergency services were operating everywhere at the sites affected by the attack.

"As of now, medics have sent two people injured in the attack to hospital," Klitschko wrote.

Updated: Later, it was reported that wreckage had also fallen on the roof of a building in the Dniprovskyi district and fires had broken out in the Solomianskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts.

Kyiv City Military Administration reported that five cars were on fire in the Holosiivskyi district.

"As a result of an enemy attack and damage to the heating pipeline in Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district, 630 residential buildings, 16 medical facilities, 17 schools and 13 kindergartens are currently without heat. Kyivteploenergo crews have already started working to deal with the aftermath of the large-scale damage," Klitschko said.

Later, Kyiv City Military Administration reported that the information about the fall of debris in the Dniprovskyi district had not been confirmed after an inspection.

As of 13:00, as a result of the attack, one person was killed and 12 others were injured. Five of them were taken to hospital.

Background: The Russians launched an attack on Kyiv on the morning of 20 December. A series of powerful explosions was heard in the city and authorities confirmed that air defence systems were responding.
