On Thursday, 19 December, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had a telephone conversation with US President-elect Donald Trump, which was dedicated to "challenges to security policy in Europe".

Details: Trump and Scholz's conversation, as noted, was devoted to "challenges to security policy in Europe".

The two sides "agreed that Russia's war on Ukraine has been going on for far too long and that it is essential to move as quickly as possible towards a just, equitable and enduring peace," Hebestreit added.

At the same time, Scholz confirmed that Germany would continue to support Ukraine in its defence against Russian aggression "as long as necessary".
