Putin claims Gazprom will withstand end of gas transit through Ukraine
The contract for Russian gas transit through Ukraine will not be renewed, but Russian energy giant Gazprom will manage to endure the change, according to Kremlin ruler Vladimir Putin.

Details: "There will no longer be this contract [for gas transit through Ukraine – ed.]. That much is clear. We will get through it, and Gazprom will get through it as well," he said.
Commenting on Western sanctions impacting gas production in the Arctic, Putin acknowledged that they pose challenges and harm Russia. However, he claimed that liquefied natural gas (LNG) production is continuing to grow despite these obstacles.
At the same time, the Arctic LNG-2 gas terminal in Russia, which is subject to sanctions, suspended the process of liquefying natural gas in October 2024 due to Western sanctions.
Bloomberg reported in November that Arctic LNG-2 had scaled back gas field production to nearly zero.
