Anti-Western Georgian president appointed by government receives invitation to visit Serbia

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has extended the first official invitation to Mikheil Kavelashvili, the newly appointed "president" of Georgia. Kavelashvili, a former footballer, is not recognised by the current Georgian President, Salome Zourabichvili.

Details: Former footballer Kavelashvili, appointed as Georgia's president on Saturday, 14 December, following an election that was not held by direct popular vote for the first time, has received his first foreign visit invitation.

The news outlet noted that he had been invited by the Serbian president in his congratulatory message.

"At a time when the world is facing many difficult and complex problems, it is of utmost importance that the leaders of all countries focus on establishing peace and stability. On this path, you will have a reliable partner and friend in Serbia," Vučić said.

Notably, the current president, Salome Zourabichvili, has labelled the vote as illegitimate and does not recognise its results.
