Macron to raise issue of peacekeeping mission for Ukraine at EU summit
French President Emmanuel Macron at the EU leaders' summit on 18-19 December will raise the issue of deploying a UN peacekeeping mission to Ukraine in case of a ceasefire and peace between Ukraine and Russia.
Source: a European official said this on condition of anonymity, as reported by a Radio Liberty correspondent in Brussels; European Pravda
Details: Many senior EU officials say that it is too early to have these discussions. In particular, the new top EU diplomat, Kaja Kallas, said so.
But, as Radio Liberty’s source said, this discussion is inevitable, given the French president's visit to Poland and the media debate on sending peacekeeping troops to Ukraine, Donald Trump’s upcoming accession to power in the US, and the need to hold a discussion regarding the war in Ukraine with him.
Two other diplomats also noted that this topic is being raised precisely to prepare for a conversation with the US president-elect and to ensure the EU's participation in peace talks.
At the same time, they said, the topic of European troops is not being developed and remains at the level of an idea.
