44% of Ukrainians economise on food – poll
Almost half of Ukrainians (44%) say they try to buy the cheapest products when shopping for food, ignoring their quality.

Details: 45% of respondents said they could afford to buy better-quality but more expensive products, and 11% answered "not sure".
The study also showed that since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the percentage of Ukrainians struggling to make ends meet has increased to 12%, compared to 9% in 2021.
At the same time, the percentage of people who feel financially secure but cannot afford major purchases has also risen (from 6% to 9%). The number of people who have enough to live on but struggle to buy longer-lasting items such as furniture or household appliances has fallen (from 44% to 41%).
Compared to 2005, there has been a rise in the percentage of people living on their salary as their sole income (from 38% to 54%) and a decline in the share of people whose main income is from pensions or social benefits (from 38% to 29%).
The poll was conducted face to face in territories that are controlled by the government of Ukraine and not subject to active hostilities. A total of 2,016 respondents aged 18 and up were interviewed. The sample's margin of error does not exceed 2.3%.
Background:
