Zelenskyy speaks with Macron, stresses importance of NATO invitation for Ukraine
On Friday, 29 November, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a telephone call with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron.

Details: During the conversation, Zelenskyy thanked France for its readiness "to assist with urgently strengthening Ukraine’s air defence, as well as for its comprehensive defence support and the expedited process for transferring Mirage aircraft".
Quote: "I deeply appreciate France’s understanding of the challenges we face. We had a detailed discussion on how to enhance air defence and protect the lives of our people," he added.
Zelenskyy said he had "emphasised the importance of Ukraine's invitation to NATO", the expansion of the country’s long-range capabilities, and further training and equipping Ukrainian troops – both in NATO member states and on Ukrainian soil.
Background:
- The first batch of Mirage 2000-5s that France intends to supply to Ukraine early in 2025 will contain three aircraft, according to information obtained by the French media outside official channels.
- It was also reported that Ukraine has asked NATO to invite it to join the military alliance at a meeting next week.
