MI6 chief says Putin is sabre-rattling with nuclear weapons and Russia is behind sabotage in Europe
Russia is conducting a "staggeringly reckless campaign" of sabotage in Europe, as well as increasing nuclear sabre-rattling to deter other countries from helping Ukraine.
Source: Richard Moore, Chief of the UK’s Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), cited by Reuters and reported by European Pravda
Details: Richard Moore stated in Paris on Friday that if Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin is successful in transforming Ukraine into a vassal state, he would not stop there.
Quote: "Our security - British, French, European and transatlantic - will be jeopardised," he said.
"We have recently uncovered a staggeringly reckless campaign of Russian sabotage in Europe, even as Putin and his acolytes resort to nuclear sabre-rattling to sow fear about the consequences of aiding Ukraine," Moore said.
He stated that the expense of assisting Ukraine is clearly understood but added, "The cost of not doing so would be immeasurably larger. If Putin succeeds, China will consider the consequences, North Korea will be emboldened, and Iran will become much more dangerous."
Moore and other Western intelligence officials warned of growing Russian sabotage.
Background:
- NATO and Western intelligence services have claimed that Russia is responsible for a growing number of hostile actions in the Euro-Atlantic region, ranging from frequent cyberattacks to Moscow-related arson crimes, all of which Russia denies.
- Christian Freuding, Head of the Special Task Force for Ukraine at Germany's Federal Ministry of Defence, believes that Germany has become the main target of Russia's hybrid warfare due to its leading role in supporting Ukraine.
- Karsten Bröer, Inspector General of the German Bundeswehr, warned that the crash of a DHL freight jet in Lithuania could be used as a test for Russia to attack Western countries' vulnerabilities.
