Ukrainian Parliament offers to lower age of mobilisation from 60 to 55

MPs have registered a draft law in the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) aiming to reduce the age limit for military service and reserve from 60 to 55 years.

Quote from Honcharenko: "I propose to lower the age limit for military service and the reserve from 60 to 55 years. I have already submitted the relevant draft law No. 12222 to the Verkhovna Rada."

Details: The MP explains that most men aged 55-60 have poorer health, are often recognised as "limitedly fit", and are physically unable to perform all combat missions.

In addition, the servicemen that have been on active duty since 2022, especially those who have been injured or have reached the age of 50+, need to be rotated or demobilised.

Oleksii Honcharenko says that commanders note that "the army is getting older," and older servicemen cannot always perform certain combat tasks effectively. At the same time, those who want to continue their service will be able to do so at their own will.

Honcharenko added that Ukrainians support the initiative, as the petition to lower the age limit for mobilisation to 55 received 25,000 votes, which means that the government is obliged to consider this suggestion.

Other initiators of the draft law are Volodymyr Ariev, Yuliia Tymoshenko, and Yana Zinkevych.
