Ukraine's foreign minister goes to Italy for G7 ministerial meeting

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha will visit Italy from 25 to 26 November to participate in the G7 ministerial meeting.

Details: The ministry noted that Sybiha will attend the G7 ministerial meeting in Italy on 25-26 November on President Zelenskyy's behalf.

He is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell and foreign ministers from Global South countries on Monday, 25 November.

Sybiha will join a special session of the G7 ministerial meeting dedicated to Ukraine on Tuesday, 26 November,. 

He will also hold bilateral talks with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.

As the foreign ministry noted, the discussions will focus on strengthening support for Ukraine amidst recent Russian escalations, including the involvement of North Korean forces, the use of medium-range ballistic missiles against Ukraine and continued aerial terror targeting civilians, critical infrastructure and the energy system.

Background: 

• On 22 November, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Kyiv had requested assistance from allies in strengthening air defence to protect against ballistic missiles such as the one fired at the city of Dnipro the previous day.
• On 24 November, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha urged foreign partners to improve Ukrainian air defence with weapons capable of intercepting Russian medium-range ballistic missiles.
