The answer "within 10 years" was chosen by 51% of respondents. In the 2023 survey, this figure was the highest, reaching almost 70%.

A total of 12% of respondents believe that Ukraine will be able to join NATO in the next 10-20 years, and 4% believe that it will take more than 20 years.

Some 22% believe that Ukraine will never be accepted into NATO. This is 12 percentage points more than in 2023.

Optimism about rapid accession to the EU has also declined, but these figures are higher: 61% believe in the possibility of accession in the next 10 years, compared to 73% in 2022-23; 14% believe it will take longer, and 15% believe that Ukraine will never be accepted into the EU.

The survey was conducted in August 2024.

Background:

  • The Gallup poll also showed that Ukrainians' approval of the US administration's actions has dropped significantly to the level it was before the full-scale war, while their approval of Germany has remained almost unchanged.
  • Another poll showed that the largest share of Ukrainians believe in joining the EU in 3-5 years. Together with the "optimists" who believe in joining in less than three years, this is more than 50% of respondents.
