At the same time, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed in the morning that the defence forces hit a logistics arsenal of Russian troops near the city of Karachev, Bryansk Oblast, on the night of 18-19 November, without specifying what type of weapon was used. The Center for Countering Disinformation reported that the depot contained artillery ammunition, including North Korean-supplied ammunition for their systems, aerial bombs, anti-aircraft missiles and MLRS ammunition.

It was reported that as of 02:30, 12 secondary explosions and detonations were recorded in the area.

"The destruction of ammunition depots for the army of the Russian occupiers to stop Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine will continue. To be continued," the General Staff noted.

Background:

  • Russian leader Vladimir Putin issued a decree on 19 November approving Russia's updated nuclear doctrine, shortly after the White House allowed Ukraine to strike deep into Russia. One of the conditions for the use of nuclear weapons is the "launch of ballistic missiles".
  • On 17 November, The New York Times reported that current US President Joe Biden had for the first time allowed the Ukrainian military to use long-range ATACMS missiles to strike Russian territory.

For reference: Depending on the modification, US-delivered ATACMS missiles can have a range of 140 to 300 kilometres.
