War in Ukraine will end faster with Trump's team – Zelenskyy

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has commented on conversations he has had with US President-elect Donald Trump, stating that his policy will hasten the end of the war in Ukraine.

Quote: "A just peace is very important for us, so that we do not feel we have lost our best people only to have injustice forced upon us. The war will end, but there is no set date. Of course the war will be over sooner with the policy of this team, who will now govern the White House. That is their approach, their pledge to their society, and it is very important for them too."

Zelenskyy also said he had heard nothing "against our position" during his conversations with Trump.

Asked whether Trump will make Ukraine take part in negotiations with Russia, Zelenskyy responded: "We are an independent country. And we have proved during this war – our people as much as I personally in conversations with the US, and Trump, and Biden, and European leaders – that with us, the ‘sit down and listen’ approach does not work."

Background: On 7 November, Zelenskyy had a telephone conversation with Donald Trump and congratulated him on his victory in the US presidential elections.
