In Kryvyi Rih, family, friends and city residents gathered to bid farewell to Olena Kulyk and her three children – Kyrylo, 10, Demyd, 2, and Uliana, two-month-old – who tragically lost their lives during a Russian missile strike on 11 November.

The sole survivor of the family was the family’s father, Maksym Kulyk.

Details: The farewell ceremony took place at the Spasinnia (Salvation) prayer house, as the Kulyk family were members of the Blahoslovinnia (Blessing) church in the village of Radushne.

During the service, Maksym Kulyk, 33, gave an emotional speech, which those in attendance listened to standing.

Quote from Maksym Kulyk’s speech: "Today, I don’t feel like finding comfort and I don’t want to live. Kuzia [Maksym refers to his wife – ed.], my soul, my love and my support – I will always love you. Kyrylo, you were my best friend. Demyd, you would always say, 'Daddy, Daddy will put me to bed, Daddy will feed me.' Uliana, I wanted so much for you to say the first word 'mum' or 'dad'."

Viacheslav, the former coach of Kyrylo, shared that Kyrylo loved playing football and had been training for two years.

Quote: "This is a heavy tragedy for our football team. We gathered with the kids on the field and all of them were in tears. He was a wonderful boy, well-mannered and took training very seriously. Always cheerful, he got along with everyone."

A family friend, Olha, recounted how Olena Kulyk, together with Maksym and their children, were known for their charitable work, often feeding those in need and visiting orphanages.

The procession led by local residents formed a corridor of people as they were passing by Kyrylo’s school, where the last school bell rang in his memory.

Olena and her children were laid to rest at the Central Cemetery of Kryvyi Rih.

Background: The Kulyk family’s tragedy occurred on the morning of 11 November when a Russian ballistic missile struck the apartment building where they lived. Maksym Kulyk’s life was spared because he was in a different room at the time of the attack.
