Six North Korean officers killed near Donetsk

A missile strike on 3 October in Russian-occupied territory near the city of Donetsk killed over 20 military personnel, including six officers from North Korea.

Details: The North Korean officers had arrived for consultations with their Russian counterparts. In addition, three North Korean soldiers were injured.

According to reports from Russian social media, prior to the missile strike, Russian forces were showcasing to the North Korean representatives the preparation of their personnel for assault and defence operations.
Background:
- In June, it was reported that North Korea would send military construction and engineering forces to participate in "reconstruction works" in occupied Donetsk Oblast as early as July 2024.
- The Pentagon believed that North Korean troops in Ukraine would become cannon fodder.
