Wreckage of Iranian Shahed UAV found again in Romania

On Friday 4 October, the Romanian military discovered the remains of a Russian drone deployed to destroy targets in Ukraine.

Details: A kilometre or so from the Sf. Gheorghe mouth, in the Danube Delta, fragments of a Shahed drone were discovered. This is roughly where fighters were stationed during Russia's nighttime raid on Odesa Oblast.

Quote: "A team of specialists from the Ministry of Defence, the Romanian Intelligence Service, and the Ministry of the Interior examined the stated perimeter and seized fragments of a Russian drone, which will be analysed in accordance with legal processes," the report said.

They emphasised that the Shahed drone was found in the non-urban zone, and it did not hit any infrastructure.

Quote: "The Ministry of National Defence firmly condemns the assaults carried out by the Russian Federation against Ukrainian civilian targets and infrastructure, which are unlawful and significantly violate international law," the Romanian Defence Ministry added.

To date, Romania has discovered at least 17 drones that flew over Romanian airspace before returning to Ukraine or crashing on Romanian soil. 

On 29 September, the North Atlantic Alliance initiated enhanced monitoring of Romanian airspace with another long-range radar tracking aircraft (AWACS).
