Details: Turner said the involvement of North Korean troops in the war against Ukraine must be a "red line".
In the letter, he notes that the reports of North Korean troops in Ukraine are "alarming" and indicate an "extreme escalation of the conflict in Ukraine".
"North Korean troops, either attacking Ukraine from Russian territory or entering into Ukrainian territory, must be a red line for the United States and NATO. Your administration must make that absolutely clear and unequivocal," Turner wrote to Biden.
Turner also called for an immediate classified briefing at the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence concerning the possible engagement of North Korean troops in the war in Ukraine.
Background:
- Earlier, Kyrylo Budanov, Head of Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence, said that about 11,000 North Korean infantry troops could be deployed in the war in November.
- South Korea's intelligence service has also reported the deployment of North Korean troops to Russia.
- Estonian Defence Intelligence believes that the involvement of North Korean soldiers in the war on the side of Russia will not change the situation on the front line.
- UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the participation of North Korean troops on the side of Russia in the war against Ukraine, if confirmed, will show the Kremlin's "level of desperation".
