Duration of basic military training increased by 50% at four Ukrainian Armed Forces training centres

The duration of basic military training has been increased from 30 days to one and a half months at four training centres of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Quote from Mezhevikin: "One of the important steps that has been taken to enhance training and improve the quality of instruction for servicemen at training centres is extending the duration of basic military training. 

To this end, a basic military training programme with a duration of one and a half months has been developed and approved." [Basic military training currently lasts for 30 days – ed.]

Details: Mezhevikin clarified that the extension of basic military training to one and a half months is a pilot project that, further to a decision by Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, is already being implemented at four key training centres of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Currently, about 500 servicemen are involved in this experiment.

He said the updated basic military training programme includes studying the basics of operating drones and trench-based electronic warfare and reconnaissance equipment, as well as enhanced tactical fire training, reconnaissance and sabotage activities, and frontline survival skills, especially winter survival.

Mezhevikin said the results of the pilot project will be analysed in December this year. The Commander-in-Chief will then decide whether to roll out this practice to other training centres.

Background: Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine's Armed Forces, announced on 15 September that a project to extend the duration of basic combined weapons training would be launched in October or November of this year.
