Quote: "I held [a session of] the Staff [of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief]. There was a report by Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi on the operational situation. Active hostilities are taking place along the entire length of the frontline, but the fighting is particularly fierce on the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove fronts. The Russians have been trying to break through our defences in Kursk Oblast for five days. The guys are holding on and fighting back.’
Details: The President also mentioned the in-depth analysis by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine and the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine on the countries and organisations that provide assistance to Russia in its war against Ukraine.
The analysis covers both open and covert military, economic and political support. The President stressed the importance of developing plans to weaken these criminal alliances together with partners.
Moreover, during the meeting, the Ministry of Defence reported on arms contracting for the current and next periods, including partner assistance and investments in the Ukrainian defence industry.
Background:
- The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that Russian troops intensified counterattacks in Russia’s Kursk Oblast on 10 and 11 October to try to push Ukrainian forces out before deteriorating weather conditions limit their manoeuvres on the battlefield.
- Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that Russia had redeployed about 50,000 troops to its Kursk Oblast, weakening its position on the battlefield in Ukraine.
