Earlier, Russian Security Council’s Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said that by July 2024, about 190,000 people had signed up to serve.

It is noted that the sharp increase in the number of contract soldiers is due to the increased amount offered as a one-time payment for signing a contract.

The government is raising payments for signing a contract to attract Russians to the war: the federal payment has increased from RUB 195,000 (USD 2,100) to RUB 400,000 (USD 4,400) in August 2024, and regional payments increased by an average of four times.
