Latvian Foreign Ministry summons Russian chargé d'affaires due to Shahed drone found in Latvian territory

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia summoned Russia’s acting chargé d'affaires on 9 September in connection with the Russian drone found in the east of Latvia last week.

Details: The Latvian Foreign Ministry expressed its "categorical protest" to the head of the Russian embassy in connection with a Russian Shahed drone of military importance being found in the Rēzekne Municipality on 7 September.

Quote: "The Russian Chargé d’Affaires a.i. was requested to provide a comprehensive explanation of the incident, in which an unmanned aerial vehicle illegally violated Latvia’s airspace while also carrying explosives."

The Russian chargé d’affaires assured the Latvian side that he would inform the Russian Foreign Ministry about the situation.

"The responsible Latvian authorities continue with an in-depth investigation into the circumstances of the incident. Latvia has informed its allies, the leadership of NATO and the EU, as well as, through diplomatic channels, its counterparts in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of other countries about the situation," the Latvian Ministry said.
